If your office or business generates a lot of paper, then it is likely you will require a commercial paper shredder, which can handle more volume than a standard home/office shredder. Several high capacity commercial shredders can handle nearly as much as industrial shredders, but require less room and are not as cumbersome.

Commercial paper shredders are available in either strip-cut or crosscut shredders, with the cross cut shredders having a lower sheet capacity, but offering higher security. However, it is important to note that the overall capacity will be much greater than a standard office shredder.

Several of the commercial shredders can handle some plastics, as well as staples and paper clips. Because of their size, commercial shredders have casters for easy mobility. Other features may include: automatic start and stop switch, as well as a switch for continuous operation, an indicator which automatically stops the machine when the bin is full, and a feeder, which directs materials to the cutting
heads.

Standard office shredders will only have a speed of approximately 20-24 ft. per minute whereas a commercial paper shredder will have a speed of 36-40 ft. per minute, with an overall output as high as 2900 lbs. per hour.
