It is estimated that in the United
States alone, that 9.3 million individuals have fallen victim to
identity fraud. I own a portable paper shredder and I'd like to share some to the great advantages of owning a portable paper shredder with you. It provides me with every precaution against identity theft at home, the office, and when I travel on business trips. Every document that I do not have to keep for expense purposes, I shred. Before purchasing a portable paper shredder, I had to ensure that I had all of the receipts safely packed. I never tossed them away because people do dig through restaurant trash, as well as hotel trash all of the time. A discarded credit card slip can easily be used give a thief access to your account. You have to protect yourself---no one will do it for you. Great for Any Serious Worker: You can't leave sensitive documents where anyone can find them, especially in the trash. In cases such as this, it is hard to protect yourself. However, there are several things you can do. 1.Shred all junk mail, bank statements, and credit card bills every document that may contain any information on you that can be used by a thief, including personal letters from friends and family. 2. Do not order checks with your social security number or drivers license number imprinted on them. 3. Do not store any credit card numbers on your computer. 4. When using your Debit card, be aware of who is watching you---including the sales clerk. 5. NEVER give personal information out over the phone, including your mother's maiden name and your birth date. 6. Mail all letters, bills, ect from the post office. Do not leave mail in your mailbox. 8% of identity fraud is the result of stolen mail. 7. Remove your name from all junk mail list. If you have to have junk mail- then use initials only. 8. Check and verify your bank accounts weekly. Review each credit card transaction and immediately report all discrepancies, then cancel that card. 9. Review your credit report yearly. 10. Shred, Shred, Shred! There are several excellent document shredders, find the one that is right for you and start protecting yourself against identity fraud. I cannot stress the value and variety I found online. I strongly recommend the benefits of paper shredders and how they can protect you.
